Dr. Rivkin uses Radiance to enhance the chin, subtly improving the profile. This procedure is usually done in two 30 minute stages, separated by two weeks, and the effect after each treatment is subtle, yet very effective.
Radiance is a safe, natural appearing injectable filler material that does not require allergy testing since it is not animal based. We take care to minimize the discomfort of the injection with topical numbing cream and ice. Radiance feels soft and natural when it is in place because the particles are very fine and it is injected into the deeper layers of the skin. The effect lasts for two to three years. Unlike permanent surgical chin implant procedures, Dr. Rivkin can change the injection each time he does it so that, as your face changes over time, the effect is always natural and never looks "done."
With traditional surgical chin implants there is always a risk of infection (in which case the implant always has to be removed and the chance of significant scarring is high), and movement of the implant, resulting in a poor cosmetic result. A procedure under general anesthesia always entails certain risks, i.e. teeth damage, vocal cord damage leading to hoarseness as well as the less likely but devastating risks of heart attack, stroke and even death.
After the procedure, you will experience some swelling and, possibly, a mild amount of bruising and tenderness over the area injected. All of these symptoms will typically resolve within two to three days. Surgical chin implant procedures are associated with two to four weeks of bruising, swelling and pain.
